The Social Security Administration has called on millions of users, such as contributors and beneficiaries, to transfer their My Social Security account to Login.gov to continue accessing its services online. If you do not make the change by the end of August, your account will be blocked. Therefore, in this note, I give you the steps to follow to migrate to the United States government platform.
This change must be made by those who created their My Social Security account on the SSA platform before September 18, 2021, and log in with a username instead of their email address, they must make the transfer to Login.gov by August 31.
WHY SHOULD I MOVE MY SOCIAL SECURITY FROM THE SSA PLATFORM TO LOGIN.GOV?
The My Social Security account you created on the Social Security Administration (SSA) platform should be moved to Login.gov to simplify the login experience align with federal authentication standards and provide secure access.
Login.gov is a single, password-protected account for public access to various government sites. This will allow you to access all Social Security services, but also to manage other government benefits and services.
HOW DO I TRANSITION MY SOCIAL SECURITY ACCOUNT TO LOGIN.GOV?
If you created your My Social Security account before September 18, 2021, on the Social Security Administration platform or logged in with a username instead of your email address, you must switch to Login.gov. You must first meet these three criteria: be over 18 years old, have a Social Security number, and an email account. Then, you must follow these 9 steps:
- Enter https://secure.ssa.gov/RIL/SiView.action
- Click on Login.gov
- A link will open
- Click on Create an account
- Enter your email and password
- Provide personal information to verify your identity
- You will receive an activation code to complete the process
- Please read and accept my Social Security Terms of Service before accessing your account
- Once your account is created, you must select whether you prefer to receive notifications by email or text message.
By creating your account, you will be able to immediately access your personal Social Security services or other federal services.
